Extended Family Photos at Kirkland Fields in Washington, Utah

I photograph quite a few extended families, and I genuinely love these sessions! There's something really special about getting everyone together for photographs, especially when grandparents, grown siblings, and all the grandkids are in one place.

This family chose Kirkland Fields in Washington, Utah, for their session, and it was such a pretty morning. We photographed the entire family together, but also made time for each individual family, the grandkids with their grandparents, siblings, couples, and portraits of the kids.

A Morning Family Session at Kirkland Fields

One of my favorite things about Kirkland Fields is that it's a great option for family photos in Southern Utah when you're looking for something other than our usual red rock scenery. It’s also a great option for when it’s 100+ degrees outside and we want something shaded in the morning but not quite a sunrise session. Morning sessions can also be a great option for extended families, especially when you're coordinating several households and lots of little ones. Sometimes finding a time that works for everyone is half the battle! Haha.

Making Time for All the Family Combinations

Of course, we always get that big photograph of everyone together. But some of my favorite images from extended-family sessions are the smaller groupings.

Grandparents with all their grandkids, grown siblings together, each individual family, and photographs of the kids on their own. I love that everyone gets to walk away with images that are meaningful to their own little family, along with photographs of the whole group.

And while these sessions involve a lot of people and moving parts, they don't have to feel stressful. We work through the different combinations and make sure everyone gets their turn in front of the camera.

If you're planning extended family photos in St. George or the surrounding Southern Utah area, I'd love to help you find a location and plan a session that works for your family.
